Lunch at Bonnie Bell's Bistro

I walked over to Bonnie Bell's Bistro for lunch today and it's really a hidden gem of downtown. The food is wonderful and the menu boasts food that when described, sounds expensive, but the prices are surprisingly easy on your wallet.

First off, I have to talk about how good their sweet tea is. It's imperative for me to find places that have that perfect sweet tea. The kind that when you take the first sip, it's just like your momma used to make... yeah, Bonnie Bell's has it.

I ordered the Bistro Poulet Sandwich, which is fire-grilled chicken breast served on a hot French loaf layered with roasted garlic mayo, smoked gouda cheese, applewood bacon, baby greens and tomatoes. It was a delicious steal with a side of their sweet potato fries for $9.95.

Good prices, a great view of downtown and mouthwatering food makes Bonnie Bell's Bistro the spot to be for lunch in Lafayette.

My night at the 2Pauls All-You-Can-Eat Ribs First Anniversary Celebration

Friday night, I grabbed the hubby and headed down to 2Pauls Radically Urban BBQ for their All-You-Can-Eat Ribs 1st Anniversary celebration. Mrs. Marilynn told me to bring the big guns and I definitely delivered because Chris can put away some food. He was all too anxious to start and before long, they were bringing his plates 2 at a time. From what I hear, the ribs were delicious, the meat falling clean off the bone. I merely watched in awe, enjoying my pulled pork and Pretty Ruby's rice dressing.

At the table next to us were Mr. John Oppenheimer and his wife, Mrs. Barbara. Lovely people. Mr. John and Chris jokingly decided to go head-to-head, or rib-to-rib, as it were. I'm afraid Mr. John never really had a chance and bowed out at 14 ribs. Amidst conversations between Chris, Mr. John and Mr. Gary (owner of 2Pauls) about various eating contests that we'd all seen on television, Chris somehow had the time to cease the rib-eating and take a break for the white chocolate bread pudding. (Mrs. Marilynn called it his 'palette cleanser'!)

Soon it was back to the ribs, and although things got a little dicey in the end, Chris made it to an admirable 26 ribs. I told them to just let me know when they plan the first all-you-can-eat rice dressing night. I just want to say thanks to the crew at 2Pauls for making our night out a whole lot of fun!

If you're ever in need of great BBQ, stop in at 2Pauls and give their ribs a try. They have 3 original BBQ sauces to smother them in, including their amazing pepper jelly sauce. Don't forget their EatLafayette special, either: Buy one rack of ribs and get the second rack half off. The promotion runs until August 15th, so what are you waiting for?!

THIS JUST IN: 2Pauls' ALL YOU CAN EAT NIGHT was so successful that they're thinking about doing it on a regular basis. Be watching.

Johnson's Boucaniere - Almost Too Good!

Julie and I had lunch from Johnson's Boucaniere today and it was to die for! Looking over the menu we couldn't decide what to order because everything sounded so good! We did know, however that to truly be able to promote Johnson's we'd have to get a good sampling of what they have to offer. (At least that's how we justified the amount of food ordered... although, we could have just blamed Bernie Lee!)

We eventually decided to share the Garden Salad with Smoked Chicken (iceburg lettuce, purple onions, cheddar cheese and tomatoes, topped with Zapp's potato chips and served with our homemade BBQ-Ranch dressing), which was a fantastic mix. For our meals, I ordered a Brisket sandwich with their homemade BBQ sauce (f.y.i. - they call that a 'wet' brisket sandwich), while Julie wanted to try one of their new Brisket Stuffed Grilled Cheese sandwiches. Neither one of us could resist the potato salad (which was sinful). Overall, we had an amazing lunch for not a lot of money!

Check out their EatLafayette Special - Pulled pork sandwich, chips and a canned drink for $6.75 (We didn't try it this time around, but I'm willing to bet money that you can't go wrong with anything on the menu at Johnson's Boucaniere!).

Hub City Diner - It's what's for lunch.

Hub City Diner started their EatLafayette special today and as I was adding it to eatlafayette.com this morning, I decided that the good folks at Hub City would be receiving a visit from me around lunchtime.

The special includes your choice between meatloaf and chicken fried steak (I got the C.F.S. - delicious!) followed by either apple or pecan pie for dessert. My waitress, Lexy, served it up hot and fresh with a cold glass of sweet tea. Not only yummy, but a steal at $9.99! I slid my dessert into a to-go box and headed out with a full belly.

If I was a more coordinated person (or at least kept utensils in the car), I'm not sure the slice of hot apple pie would have made it back to the office where I am enjoying it now. Soo good!
